D.C. Police are investigating a ‘suspicious death’ in the Potomac Park neighborhood

Police are investigating a “suspicious death” after a man was found dead in the North Potomac Park neighborhood of northwest Washington.

A passerby called the Metropolitan Police Department’s C section about 5:40 p.m. Sunday and reported finding a male on the ground in the 1500 block of North Potomac Road NE, police said.

Metro Transit Police, at the request of D.C. police, closed the Metro Silver Line at 6th and Potomac streets NE for several hours Sunday evening while detectives from multiple agencies investigated the scene.

Metrobus vehicles were being diverted and detoured, as well. Trains on the northern line were stopped at the North Potomac Station. Many southbound train were also being rerouted to Mount Vernon Square and Old Town Alexandria while the Metro station reopened.

D.C. police spokesman Dougherty said authorities are withholding the body of the person until tomorrow to notify the next of kin, but he confirmed to The Washington Post on Monday that the man was found dead.
