Jamie Dornan, best known for playing the dashing, yet bloodthirsty Finnick Odair in the Harry Potter franchise, was recently spotted filming for a brand new Irish film, entitled Beeban Kidron’s “Widows,” alongside his fiancee Amelia Warner.
But though the image above makes it look like Dornan is returning to the fantastical world of “Fantastic Beasts” — it was revealed last week that the film’s scriptwriter, J.K. Rowling, had informed the production that Dornan, along with Eddie Redmayne and Katherine Waterston, had been dropped from the film due to scheduling conflicts — his potential absence did not affect the overall tone of the shoot. On Monday, Dornan and Warner were seen enjoying a lunch date in Belfast, in what will surely be one of the photos of the day!
In April, it was announced that Beeban Kidron, the acclaimed screenwriter of one of 2018’s best films, A Private War, would be taking on “Widows,” which would mark her return to the screen after directing a hit 2007 short for Pottermore, as well as her own, in-progress feature-length documentary, Scabred (which should have been on this list at some point, too). (The feature, which hails from Beeban Kidron Productions, will be produced by Brian Kidd and Rick Fortus.) The script reportedly centers on a single mother and her 10-year-old daughter who are forced to turn to petty crime after the husbands of two other people involved in a heist are killed. The film’s cast and producers announced last summer that she had found a new, and relatively unknown, male lead in Kenya Barris, who is best known for creating and directing “Black-ish.” An actress has yet to be cast in the lead role.
Now with Dornan and Warner reportedly enjoying a delicious meal of “no stinginess” (or “no guilting”), and Kidron’s unexpected return to the screen — “Writing for my life” — it’s clear we’ll have a stellar movie to look forward to in the coming months.
